Cloaked Identity: Art of the Mask
October 6th – 7 to 10pm
Masks fabricate new identities, giving the wearer the opportunity to watch other people without being watched. Wearers can become animals or mythical creatures, or act in a way that is not expected. They can hide behind the mask or use it to reveal a hidden truth. People use real masks to transform into something completely different or use metaphorical masks to present a different personality. We can become a concept, something totally different, other worldly. Anything can happen.
Cloaked Identity: Art of the Mask is a one month exhibition during October that showcases masks that are venerable works of art. Each piece is a sculpture in its own right, speaking to the viewer through its aesthetic while inspiring the viewer to wonder what it would feel like to wear it. The show begins with an opening reception on October 6th from 7 to 10pm and is open to the public during gallery hours on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 6pm, from October 8th to 16th. The work will be available for viewing by appointment until October 31st.
