Cloaked Identity: Art of the Mask

shapiromask-3aOctober 6th – 23rd

Masks fabricate new identities, giving the wearer the opportunity to watch other people without being watched. Wearers can become animals or mythical creatures, or act in a way that is not expected. They can hide behind the mask or use it to reveal a hidden truth. People use real masks to transform into something completely different or use metaphorical masks to present a different personality. We can become a concept, something totally different, other worldly. Anything can happen.

Cloaked Identity: Art of the Mask is a one month exhibition during October that showcases masks that are venerable works of art. Each piece is a sculpture in its own right, speaking to the viewer through its aesthetic while inspiring the viewer to wonder what it would feel like to wear it.
