Bound and Determined
New work by guest artist Steve Wiman
Local artist Steve Wiman is revealing a new body of work at Dimension Gallery entitled Bound and Determined. The show will commence with an opening reception on February 2nd from 6-9pm and will be open to the public for the rest of February on Saturdays and Sundays from 12-6pm.
Bound and Determined is a reflection on the strength we find from the bonds of community in times of uncertainty. Family ties bind us together. Our chosen families are even more profoundly bound. In uncertain circumstances, our determination to be our best selves is essential. Our path must be determined by clarity and truth. This installation honors the bonds of friends and family and celebrates our determination to be better together.
Steve Wiman is an assemblage artist and owner of an unusual antique store in Austin, Uncommon Objects. Steve is a graduate of the University of North Texas and attended graduate art school at the University of Texas. It was the study of color and composition through painting that gave him his aesthetic foundation. Finding beauty in the mundane and shining a light on it is his mission as an artist.
When asked to illuminate the meaning of this upcoming exhibition, Steve says, “My world is changing. It’s changing fast. I have never felt more uncertainty and psychic unrest in my lifetime. Truths known are in question. Clarity gives way to blurred vision. My response is my choice. I am bound and determined to seek the light. I am obligated to be kind, to honor truth and to find beauty and share it.”
This project is supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
